Recofast CV 250, classified within the anti-infectives therapeutic class, is a combination antibiotic medication. Each film-coated tablet of Recofast CV 250 contains two active ingredients: 250 mg of Cefuroxime, presented as Cefuroxime Axetil USP, and 62.5 mg of Clavulanic Acid, in the form of diluted Potassium Clavulanate BP. Cefuroxime is a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic effective against a broad spectrum of bacteria. Clavulanic Acid, on the other hand, is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that extends the antibacterial efficacy of Cefuroxime by preventing bacterial resistance to the antibiotic.
Recofast CV 250 is indicated for the treatment of various bacterial infections where the presence of beta-lactamase-producing organisms might lead to resistance against cephalosporin antibiotics like Cefuroxime alone. This includes infections of the respiratory tract, urinary tract, skin and soft tissue, and ear, throat, and sinuses. It is also used in treating more severe infections such as Lyme disease and can be prescribed in certain surgical procedures as a prophylactic measure against postoperative infections.
The dosage of Recofast CV 250 (Cefuroxime 250 mg and Clavulanic Acid 62.5 mg) is determined by the severity of the infection, the type of infecting organism, and the patient's age, weight, and renal function. For adults and children with normal kidney function, the typical dosage is one tablet taken orally twice daily.
The tablets should be taken with food to enhance the absorption and efficacy of the medication. Patients are advised to complete the entire course of the antibiotic as prescribed, even if symptoms improve early, to ensure the complete eradication of the infection and to prevent the development of antibiotic resistance.
Patients should maintain evenly spaced intervals between doses to keep a consistent level of the drug in the body. Dosage adjustments may be necessary for patients with impaired kidney function, and any changes in the treatment should be made under the supervision of a healthcare provider. As with all combination antibiotics, it's important for patients to understand the significance of adhering to the prescribed dosage and treatment duration.
